1 Samuel 17:33-37 NIV. Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.”
Let’s consider Total Victory using the story of David and Goliath, his victory over the giant and total defeat of the philistines’ army. We read in verse 16 that for forty days Goliath came every morning to terrorize the Children of God challenging them into a battle but no one was man enough to face the Giant. The first 40 days of this year will be the most challenging part but don’t be intimidated, brace up and face your challenge, you are well able to take the land, it is just a process you have to go through to actualized your victory, God has promised Total Victory this year but you still have to fight the battle to actualize the victory, so quit yourselves as men and fight. Be determine this year to face your fears, your challenges, those things that defeated you before because God this year has given the enemy into your hands, it’s a good fight of faith because at the end of it all you will triumph in Jesus name.
David was not intimidated by the size of Goliath; he confronted him head on not giving consideration to his own limitations in terms of size, unconventional weapon or experience. Just like David, don’t be afraid to attempt anything God impresses in your heart to do. You will achieve things that are bigger than you. Don’t be intimidated by the size of the project, or the budget, trust God, be bold, very courageous and see yourself walking in total Victory in Jesus name! Please take note; the victory will not come if you put your trust in the abilities of men. It is what you know and who you know that will give you the victory not what others tell you. If David had trusted in the weapons of war provided him by King Saul, we probably would not have read his story, rather he rejected those weapons because he was not used to them and settle for his primitive unconventional weapon, his sling and this gave him the victory. I charge you this year to desist from putting your trust in people or their abilities, do not follow the voice of the multitude, seek God and find out what plans he has for you this year and trust him to bring them to pass. David wrote in Psalm
147:10-11 KJV He delights not in the strength of the horse: he takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord takes pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
Make up your mind this year to find out the will of God, get acquainted with him and build your faith based on the word of God. Your victory this year is in your faith.1 John 5:4 Friend, the battle is not yours, it belongs to the Lord, and God will fight for you when you make your battle His battle. This was exactly what David did. He looked at Goliath and accused him of defying the army of the living God, bring God into the fight. No matter the battle or challenge that may confront you this year, turn the battle to the Lord, I tell you if God be for you, no one can be against you. If God is in your corner, your victory is indisputable. God told me it’s going to be a war of words. How much of the word of God you carry will determine the extent of victory you will enjoy. So get yourself engaged with the word of God this year, study and gather enough weapons to fight. David responded to Goliath’s threats word for word, he rehearsed his testimony of the lion and the bear which boosted his faith and he declared boldly to Goliath that the Lord will deliver you into my hands. According to revelations 12:11 he overcame by the words of his testimony. You will overcome in Jesus name.
1 Samuel 17:48-49 NIV. As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face-down on the ground.
I have always wondered how a small pebble could have killed a giant like Goliath but have come to realize in the cause of my meditation that it wasn’t an ordinary stone but the stone the builders have rejected, the rock of offense according to 1 Peter 2:6, the Rock of Stumbling according to Isaiah 8:14, Rock of Israel according to Isaiah 30:29, and the Rock of my salvation according to 2 Samuel 22:47. That is the Rock that hit Goliath, Jesus himself, the Rock of Ages, it is him that confronted Goliath and defeated him. David said to the Philistine, in verse 17, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied”.
In closing, David saw a challenge, confronted the challenge in the name of the Lord, God fought the battle for him, won the battle and gave him the victory. This will be your story; this is your year of Total Victor in Jesus name.

Questions to reflect on:
- Do you know that you are more powerful than what you think?
- Do you know that what you are afraid of is actually afraid of you?
I will not fear and I shall confront every Goliath with faith and boldness because my victory is certain in Jesus name.
