Your Body, your mind; Total Salvation
It is common knowledge that once an individual becomes born again(confesses Christ as Lord and saviour) it ends there, but as a matter of fact that is just the beginning of the total transformation. Salvation does not just involve the spirit man, the mind and body are also involved. Many scriptures explains the entirety of total salvation, but I have chosen Romans 12 verse 1 for this write up.
Romans 12:1 (NIV)
‘Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, His good pleasing and perfect will.
The Body. Looking at this scripture, Paul urged, to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. A sacrifice by all standards should be ‘holy’ and unblemished(not bruised, ill, deformed in any way) as it is presented to one considered holy. In this text it says a ‘living’ sacrifice, that is, these features should be constant. This can only mean that our healthy bodies actually worships God! (This is your true and proper worship), when Christ died on the cross, divine health, being in constant good health, was apportioned to all who will come to him. It is part of the salvation package.
The Mind. The second part of the scripture says ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world’. The living bible translation describes it as ‘don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but be a new and different person. Paul definitely isn’t talking to those who are still in the world, he wouldn’t be telling them not to conform to the ways of the world when in fact that is the only life they know. He is talking to all who have been saved, hence the statement ‘be a new and different person, referring to the ‘born again’ status. ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind… the word renewing stands out there, it doesn’t say renew, but renewing, which connotes the need for continuous effort, its no wonder Paul said ‘work out your salvation with fear and trembling’ it requires constant effort.
Once the mind and body are in tune with the spirit, there is bound to be prosperity in all areas. Constant feeding on the word of God, will enable this to be possible, because one begins to see the nature of one’s true self.
It is God’s will indeed for us to prosper and be in health even as our soul prospers.
