2 Corinthians 10:3-5 KJV –  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Ephesians 6:17 KJV – And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
There is a war that is going on in the spiritual realm, this war is not against flesh and blood and therefore cannot be fought with canal weapons. According to the scriptures, the war is between the spirit and the flesh.
Galatians 5:17 KJV For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Pulling down strongholds: A stronghold according to scriptures is a fortified secured hiding place. A place of security and protection from the enemy or from assailants. In judges 6:2, the children of Israel hid themselves in strongholds away from the Medianites, David in 1 Samuel 22:4 hid himself in strongholds away from Saul. One cannot but ask the question, why will Paul write that we need weapons of God to pull down strongholds if they are meant to be a place of security?
The point is that a secured stronghold can turn around to become a prison if care is not taken. An ideology or principle held strongly to which hitherto should have protected one from a particular way of living can become a stronghold that prevents one from fully exploring and actualizing ones potential. Literarily, strongholds in the New Testament context are philosophies, ideologies, principles, traditions, norms and arguments that over the years have become entrenched in one’s beliefs. This strong hold is a hold on how one behaves and perceives things in general. It becomes a negative stronghold when such beliefs or ideologies begins to conflict with knowledge of God and make such an individual subservient to such ideology rather than to God. At this juncture, such strong holds needs to be pulled down or destroyed so that the one who has been held captive by what he has erected for himself can be set free from captivity. Now because the stronghold was originally created by him which has now become a prison, he will need one that is greater to help pull this down hence the need for the weapon that is mighty through God.
Casting down imaginations: The word casting down is the same word in Greek for pulling down. The weapons of God have the ability to pull down images that have become a nation in one’s mind and destroy a nation; you need to cast down the walls. When we allow the mind feast on negative thoughts, they begin to form images in our minds and one can be so engulfed with these images that it begins to affect ones language and one begins to verbalize the images in the mind, this consequently affects the way one will act. As the scriptures says Proverbs 23:7, as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. A wrong image in the mind is a stronghold and a negative one for that matter. If allowed to stay can incapacitate ones potential and can become a snare which places a limit over one’s life.
Negative thoughts cannot be pulled down with positive thoughts, you need something more powerful than the thought and that is the word of God which is quick and powerful. The word is a weapon that can pull down every negative thought. Exactly what Jesus did when the devil bombarded him with negative thoughts, he responded with a corresponding counter word ‘It is written’ Matthew 4:4. So whenever the enemy sends you a negative feed in your mind don’t dwell on it just open your mouth and speak the word, I tell you the thought will varnish just as it came.
Casting down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God: Another thing that our weapons can do is that it has the ability to cast down anything that tries to take the place of God in your life. This is another form of stronghold that could come inform of ideas, thoughts or suggestion that lifts itself above what the word of God says. For example if you harbor in your heart the thought that you are sick and can never get well because of a medical report, then that is a stronghold because it is completely contrary to the word of God that says by His stripes you were healed. Such thoughts make the word of God of no effect and will make the recipient totally alienated from the promise of God. Whatever thought you hold on to that is contrary to what the word of God says, is a strong hold. Whatever tradition that is strong in your heart and does not allow you give consideration to what the word of God is saying for now is a stronghold. Whatever doctrine you adopt and do not give room for you to exercise your dominion according to the word of God but becomes idolatry is a stronghold. Whoever person or persons that holds a more exalted position in your life than the word of God has become a stronghold and must be pulled down for God will never subscribe to second place in anything. He must have preeminence in all things. Colossians 1:18
Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ: Our weapons of warfare have the capacity to incapacitate any thought and bring such a thought under the dominion of the word of God. When you allow the word of God infiltrate your mind, it will choke out negative thoughts and suggestions of the devil; it will subdue any wrong imagination and bring them to the point where they will submit to the authority of the word or God.
Friend, anytime you are bombarded with a barrage of evil thoughts and wrong mind set, anytime you feel caged in your own erected stronghold of ideologies or principles, you don’t need a psychic or a psychologist, remember you have the weapons of warfare that are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. All you need is to first begin to rebuke those thoughts in the name of Jesus, plead the blood of Jesus over your mind and expose yourself to the word of God, by reading, meditating and confessing the word of God that is contrary to the thoughts in your mind. Before you know it, you will be delivered and completely set free from the stronghold. After this you will experience a lift in Jesus name. Amen!
