Types of Wisdom
1 Corinthians 2:3-8
3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Proverbs 4:7 – Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.
Knowledge, wisdom and understanding, these three words always go together. Knowledge is to know, to have information and facts. Wisdom is the right application of knowledge. Understanding means to set together, it means to have a grasp. Our focus today will be on wisdom.
The above scripture highlights four types of wisdom. They are as follow =-
Human wisdom – this type of wisdom comes with human development. For example, the longer you live the more you know how ought to behave and react to the people and your environment. A baby is not wise enough to know the danger of fire but as he grows up into teenager learns how to handle fire with caution. This type of wisdom increases with maturity in age.
Wisdom of this world/age – all of life’s vocation requires training to equip you with relevant expertise and application in your field. Through the training you develop the necessary skills to carry out procedures and operations in your vocation. The process of acquiring the required skills of operation in your field results in the wisdom of this world. For example, the training a person obtains to become a doctor, mechanic, fisherman, swimmer provides the person with the wisdom of this world.
Wisdom of the rulers of this world/age – This type of wisdom come demonic sources. For example psychic, palm reading witchcraft, crystal ball, occult etc people consult these sources in order to find their way and know how to handle different situations in their lives. These sources never point people to God, rather it directs you away from God.
According to the scripture in 1 Corinthians 2, the human wisdom, the wisdom of this age and the wisdom of the rulers of this age are limited and equals to nothing. This leaves us with the most important type of wisdom, the wisdom of God.
Wisdom of God – This is God’s way of doing things. You acquire this wisdom by asking Got for it. James 1: 5-7 says, 5 if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Jesus Christ has been made the wisdom of God for us. So by following the instruction of Christ in truth and in deed, you will operate the wisdom of heaven. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. So start reverencing God and asking Him for divine wisdom.
