Point #3 – GOD’S LOVE IS AN UNCONDITIONAL KIND OF LOVE
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us…
Focus now on those words ‘the Father.’ A father is a protector, a provider, a teacher and a helper. He is an encourager. Does our heavenly Father ever stop loving us? NO! He keeps on loving us even in those times when we disobey Him. The same is true of us earthly fathers.
We, fathers, get angry when the children do things they shouldn’t. We do our best to protect them from things that will harm them. We work hard to provide all the things they need in life. We try to teach them the things they need to know. We help them whenever they are in need of help. We encourage them when they are discouraged. Our heavenly Father is always there to do the same for us!
Point #4 – GOD’S LOVE IS AN UNEARNED KIND OF LOVE Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us… Now focus on those words, ‘has bestowed on us.’ What does the word ‘bestowed’ mean? It means given, granted, bequeathed, or donated. There’s nothing there to indicate it must be earned!
Romans 5:8 says: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Have we ever done anything to earn our heavenly Father’s love? NO! His love is given freely to us! Some children have the mistaken belief that they have to earn their earthly father’s love. That’s not true! I loved my children before they were born! They didn’t have to do anything to earn it. They can’t do anything to lose it. So they don’t have to do anything to try to get it back!
Point #5 – GOD’S LOVE IS AN UNTHINKABLE KIND OF LOVE Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Focus now on the words ‘we should be called the children of God.’ Imagine if a car dealer was your father and he gave you the keys to a new car.
Or maybe he was a real estate dealer and he gave you a new million-dollar home and said, “It’s yours.” Suppose for a moment that your Dad was a millionaire and he gave you a check for $1 billion. None of these would be as unthinkable as God loving you!
John 3:16 says: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Your heavenly Father has given you something far more valuable than a new car, a new home, or a check for a billion dollars. He gave His only begotten Son to die for you! He gave His Son so that through faith in Him, you could have everlasting life! I ask you, “What’s more valuable than that?” God’s intention is for us to know His kind of love, understand it, appreciate it, allow it to overwhelm us and share it with and to others. Should we know this kind of love, it would change us and help us in living the kind of life God destined us to live! God loves you more than you can know!
