Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places…..
Colossians 2: 10
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of principality and power:
History has it that Paul’s letters to the church in Ephesus and Colosse were probably written at the same period; while Paul was in prison at Rome. This explains the similarities we find in both letters and one noticeable message to both churches is that he kept emphasizing the need to come to the full knowledge of who they were in Christ in order to have a proper grip of their redemptive status.
In the above scriptures, we see Paul’s prescription for spiritual warfare. Two words come to play; Principality and Powers which the Living Bible interprets as evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, mighty powers of darkness and wicked spirits of the heavenly realms. These are not physical beings and so our carnal weapons cannot overcome them. The prescription is to put on the Full armour of God that we may be able to withstand in the evil days.
This whole armour here is putting on Christ (The burden remover and the Yoke destroyer). Rom. 13:14, Gal. 3:27.
Come to think of it, Paul defined the whole armour of God as Truth, Righteousness, Gospel of Peace, Faith, Helmet of Salvation, and Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. These all point to one person: Christ. So you don’t need any physical demonstration or spiritual gesticulation or vocabulary to win a spiritual battle. All you need is to put on Christ the whole armour of God and let Him grow in you, and you becoming rooted and built up in him. The more of Him you carry, the more result you command.
Colossians 2:10 further tells us that Christ, the burden remover and the yoke destroyer is the head of Principalities and Powers. In fact, Col 1:16 says, ‘ For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven and are in earth, both visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers: all things were created by him and for him.’
If this is true, then all we need to overcome evil powers and authorities is to put on Christ like a garment so that we are completely immersed in Him and our identity is totally fortified by the image of Christ, so that when you appear, Christ is seen.
Every kingdom has a ruler and all subjects of the kingdom recognise the head and they submit willingly to the head. No wonder, the Maniac of Gadara called Legion in Mark 4: 6 saw Christ from afar and worshipped Him. It is on record that there were a minimum of two thousand demons living in a legion and all of them submitted to Christ. Why? -because they recognised their head. In the same way, a man possessed by an evil spirit in Acts 19:15, testified to the seven sons of Sceva who tried to cast him out by saying, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know: who are you?” and because they did not have in them, The head of principalities and powers, the evil spirit pounced on the seven of them and beat them to nakedness.
What a joyful thing to know that I am complete in Him, who is the head of principality and powers. If you have the fullness of Him dwelling in you, then you can also claim to be the head of principality and powers. When demons see you, they tremble because of who you carry. If demons could recognise Christ in the Apostles and submit, then they should recognise you wherever you appear. This is the message of Paul to all saints, If Christ is in you, then you also carry the fullness of the God head and powers and authorities MUST submit to you, ONLY if you acknowledge or have this understanding. When demons come to test you, they only try to check if you know who you carry and the moment they realize you have an understanding of your status in Christ, they depart for a season.
Friend, the more of Him you carry, the more results and respect you command. This is what differentiates one Christian from another. It’s true we are all born again since we are in Christ (2Cor 5:17), but we all do not command the same result because Christ is not formed in all. When you got born again, you lost your old nature and put on the nature of Christ. This only guarantees your redemption but does not guarantee your victory in life but as you grow day by day by feeding on the word of God, Christ is formed in you and He brings you to a realization of your full status and by this, you can begin to claim your victories.
