The Value of Mentoring and Pastoral Guidance

1st Chronicles 20:20Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. “

Jeremiah 3:15 – And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Over the years I have met many believers who have never benefited from this great avenue of promotion that God has set up to fast track our progress in His kingdom: the avenue of mentoring or pastoral guidance. From the above scriptures we can see that God has planned to bring us into freedom and safety by a mentoring system, by placing someone in our lives that will enable us to be where and all that God has intended for us to be.

But pride and sometimes spiritual immaturity has robbed many of this privilege. Remember Saul never became a king until He met Prophet Samuel. David ascended from being a shepherd boy to the King of Israel by a prophetic blessing. Saul became Paul and received his place in God’s plan after Ananias laid hands on him and prayed for him. Paul and Barnabas became excellent and successful missionaries by the impartation of the prophets. Timothy, though young, became one of the greatest pastors recorded in the New Testament because of mentoring and divine impartation from Paul.

Rightly said God will use a man to raise a man and if you cannot follow a man you cannot follow God. You have to first be a servant of men to be a servant of God; you have to be a child of man to be a child of God. That’s the way God has set it up and that’s the way it is. I have seen over the years that as I follow the men that God has assigned me to, I flourish and become more successful in my calling. Because as I honour them the grace of God on their lives rests on me and turns me into a better person and I attract more favour as a result.

I believe the reason why God raised and anointed me is to raise and promote you supernaturally. No child of God should make slow progress rather we are to make fast and astounding progress via mentoring.
