Acts 3:16 (KJV)

And His name through faith in His name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by Him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Acts 4:29-30 (KJV)

And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, [30] By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

A miracle is a display of God’s own power through the medium of another. Signs and wonders are also a display of His power through the agency of a man. They are neither the works of any man nor anyone’s attempt to take glory in performing miracles, signs and wonders. God and God alone is the source and Him alone deserves the glory for any miracle done through any medium, and He has appointed, in our days, that signs and wonders be made possible only through the name of Jesus. He gave Him this name and made it higher than any other name, such that, at the mention of His name, every situation is subdued.

Authentic miracles can only be done through the name of Jesus as there is no other name given among men by which we can be saved. This was exactly what Peter tried to explain in the above scriptures. After the miracle of healing the man lame from birth who sat at the gate called beautiful, the people gathered around Peter and John in amazement and could have started to worship and ascribe the glory to them, but Peter, knowing their thoughts, immediately pointed them to the source of the sign and wonder. I will attempt to expound on Peter’s explanation as the Holy Spirit inspired me.

IN HIS NAME: The name of Jesus is the key that unlocks the miraculous. No Jesus, no miracle. In the Jewish culture, names signify authority and power. Acts 4:7,22 (KJV)- And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? [22] For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was done. Peter was not careful to let them know that this miracle was done in the authority and power in the name of Jesus. So saying IN HIS NAME simply means in the authority and power given by Jesus. Even in present times, names of VIP can be used to gain access or get things done. Jesus has handed over to us the authority to use His name for anything we want to do. If you have it, then use it. So when you say, ‘ In the name of Jesus,’ what you are simply telling the situation is, ‘ I come in the authority and Power of Jesus!’
