Job 32:8 – But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Daniel 5:11 – There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers.
Daniel 1:8, 17-20 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine, which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Now at the end of the days, when the king had said that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. Then the king interviewed them, and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they served before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.
Proverbs 16:3 – Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Inside our reborn spirit is the divine ability to excel and reign in this life but we need to activate it and pull it out. The steps to pulling it out are what I will focus on in this piece. The first step to operating the spirit of excellence is to make a decision of quality to separate yourself onto God and His course. When Jacob was about to die, he called his sons to bless them and declare their future. He called Rueben, his firstborn, and said to him ‘Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power:
Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst thou it: he went up to my couch’ Genesis 49:3-4. Reuben had all things in place including the double portion blessing that belongs to firstborn child but he made a mess of it through bad decision and lack of good judgment. Supernatural excellence is not automatic it requires a heart that is purposed to please God at all cost. The second step to operating the spirit of excellence is to have a workable plan and back it up with prayer and I mean serious Holy Ghost filled prayer. Many Christians with good heart and intention fail to excel because of lack of workable plan and praying. You need to pray over your plan for it to work or labour will be in vain. For example before God made man he first outlines the purpose and then put a plan into operation. He said
‘let us make man in our own image and after our likeness and let them have dominion…’
The he put together the raw material to create man, the earth and his breathe of life, then man became a living soul.
Note that God consulted with the Godhead before he worked His plan. So it is important to know that a good purpose without a workable plan will remain in the invisible realm and may never see the light of the day. And remember whatever is not worth praying about does not deserve divine approval and is not worth working at. The third step is Pursuit. It is said that pursuit is the proof of desire and that is true. I also believe that pursuit births a planned purpose. Your plan cannot birth itself; it has to be carried out with a proper line of action. You have to be full of your planned purpose such that every other thing you do revolves around it and nothing else should be able to take you away from it at any time. In your heart and soul you should be full of it until it controls your action.
It is a pity that a lot of people know their purpose and some of them even have a plan but they lack required drive to push it through. They are indifferent to whether or not the planned purpose is fulfilled. I want to warn you that a wishful thinking is not necessarily a purposeful thing. You need a drive or you’ll be driven. When purpose, plan and pursuit are in place then you need to be consistent. Champions are not born, they are made daily.
Also you should surround yourself with right people and get a mentor that will motivate and bring out the best in you and help you achieve your maximum potential. With these in place, then you are ready to emerge the excellent man God intended you to be all this while. You are a product of an excellent God there should be no mediocrity found in you in any shape or form. The product is your excellent life.
So start today by making it your prime purpose to put God first in all you do, make your plans with a consciousness that you are in the image and likeness of the excellent God, don’t fold your hands but rather pursue your plans vigorously know that you are in covenant with a faithful God. Then the spirit of excellence inside of you will come alive and the world will start seeing you achieve seemingly impossible things. I command spirit of excellence to find freedom of expression in your life in Jesus mighty name.

Questions for Reflection:
- Do you know that excellence is not automatic; it is achieved by a process?
- Can you outline the process of achieving excellence?
The Spirit of Excellence in me begins to find expression!
