The presence of the Lord is here

The presence of the Lord is here

I can feel it in the atmosphere The presence of the Lord is here

The presence of the Lord is here!

That’s a song by minister Byron Cage and I absolutely love it. Oh! What joy we experience when we gather and feel the presence of the Lord in the atmosphere, hovering over us, performing signs and wonders, changing lives and granting requests! Indeed, it is an experience one must always desire. However, is it only in the gathering of believers that we can experience God’s presence? No!

JOHN 14:16-17 16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter that He may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; Whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

The only reason why God’s presence will move in a gathering of the saints is because you and I came to that gathering. According to the above Scripture, God by His Spirit, dwells in us. We are the home of God, therefore, wherever we are, His presence is, and He will manifest if we let Him.

The book of Exodus chapter 33 tells of Moses’ encounter and request from God. In the above Scripture, the Lord had asked Moses to inform the people that His presence would not go with them to the promised land where they were headed, for they were a stiff-necked and stubborn people. Moses was not happy about this, therefore, he went to plead with God:

Exodus 33: 15-16 15 Then Moses said to Him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that You are pleased with me and with your people unless You go with us? What else will distinguish me and Your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

Moses knew that people that have the presence of God will always be distinct. The manifestation of God’s presence in the life of a believer would always be the mark of distinction between that believer and an unbeliever or someone simply playing church. A constant experience of God’s abiding presence makes one more like Him.

As long as you have accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, you definitely carry His presence. However, you and I must push into a constant awareness of the presence of God in order for us and everyone we come in contact with to constantly have a rich experience with Him.

The ‘how’ of that constant awareness can be categorised into three parts. 1. Fellowship 2. Fellowship 3. Fellowship. It’s simply fellowship. Be constant in your fellowship with God. That fellowship can be singing songs of praise to Him, praying, ministering to Him with love words, reading about Him, ministering about Him, etc! On several occasions, many have mistaken my voice for that of my spouse and vice versa. That can only be attributed to constant fellowship. The more we fellowship with Him, the more of His character we imbibe, and the more of His presence we manifest. As soon as you come in contact with a person who lacks all things good, he or she will begin to experience changes and uplifting as a result of who you “rep” as it’s called these days. Conclusively, in the Bible, God assured His prophets severally of His enduring presence with them.

Below are some of His vessels that received such an assurance, just to mention a few.

  1. Exodus 3:11-12- Moses.
  2. Joshua 1: 5- Joshua.
  3. Judges 6:12- Gideon.
  4. Jeremiah 1:6-8- Jeremiah. God repeatedly assured them because we all need to be constantly reminded of the source of our confidence and strength. Know who you are, be confident of God’s presence in you. Fear nothing and no one but God, the One who can vanquish everything that dares to cause you fear! The Presence of the Lord is in you!
