Acts 10:38 – How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him. John 8:29 – And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him. Psalm 16:11 – You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
The value of a person’s presence is in his worth. So the question is, ‘What is the worth of God to you?’ According to the above Scriptures, it is the presence of God that made the ministry of Jesus what it was. In 2011, President Barak Obama and the Queen of England came to Ireland. They came at different times and spent few days. The news media said that the presence of the Queen and the President gave a boost to Irish tourism and impacted the local economy positively. When a dignitary visits a place, his presence gives status to the place and makes it attractive to people. In light of this, it is vital for us to know that the presence of the almighty God in us and on us has a far greater effect on our identity and our worth than we sometimes know. So, it is our responsibility to pursue and acquire the knowledge of the impact of having and carrying the presence of God. In the Old Testament, the people were not allowed to approach the presence of God until they were purified or cleansed. For example, the lepers were not allowed to approach the priest or the temple unless they were confirmed completely free of their leprosy. Anyone that touched the leper or that the leper touched became unclean. The same law applied to a woman having her monthly period: she was deemed unclean. However, in the New Testament, Jesus touched the lepers and made them clean. He allowed the prostitute wash His feet with her tears. He did not tell them to clean themselves up before from demonic oppression. In the Old Testament, people were not meant to eat with nor relate with sinners. When Jesus came, He was friends with sinners and His presence made the sinners desire God and He cleansed them. Sadly, most Christians still carry the old covenant mentality in this regard. When I became a Christian, one of the first instructions I was given was to stay away from people who were not Christians and Christians that were not serious in their walk with God because they would make me impure and may lure me back into sinful ways again. While the intention may be right and there is merit in watching your company, the idea is misleading. Furthermore, the challenge was that some of these people were my family members and, my school mates. This kind of idea portrays that darkness is stronger than light and that the Christian life is a life of isolation from everyone except like-minded Christians. The power of the presence of God I carry as a Christian was played down. I was made to believe that God was only effective in church services but not in any other place. The impression I got was that the devil runs the world and every hour of the week, you are only safe in the church building. Soon, I found out that that was not the case. I am a carrier of God’s presence and I am the light of the world and the darkness in the world cannot overcome the light of God’s presence that I carry. The devil is not stronger, he is not my God and he is not stronger than me because I am a child of the most-high God. So, we will be exploring the power of the presence of God that we carry as children of God and how to activate it not only in the church but everywhere we set our feet. Friend, if the presence of the Queen of England and the American President could bring a boost to the economy of a place, the permanent residence of God in your life would bring a lasting and undeniable change and that change would be heaven on earth.
