Matthew 16:16-20 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20 Then charged He His disciples that they should tell no man that He was Jesus the Christ.
Jesus Christ – The name ‘Jesus’ in Greek means ‘Saviour.’ The Word Christ or Christos – means the Anointed One and His anointing. So the words together are the Anointed Saviour and His Anointing. To anoint means to rub in or pour over. The Hebrew word for anoint is maschiach. The word messiah is derived from it. Christ is not the surname of Jesus: the word Christ depicts His assignment. The name ‘Jesus’ (Joshua) was a common Hebrew name but the anointing separates Jesus Christ from other Jesuses. The question now is, what is the purpose of Jesus Christ, or Jesus the anointed one? Who is He to save and from what? What is the extent of His salvation and into what does He save.
Matthew 1:21 – And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.
So, Jesus is anointed to save us from sin. Remember, the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. So, Jesus saved humanity from death into eternal life (Zoë- the God kind of life) – Romans 6:23. The anointing of Jesus is the burden removing, yoke destroying power of God.
Isaiah10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing –
(Isaiah10:27 NIRV). People of Zion, in days to come, He will lift the heavy load of the Assyrians from your shoulders. He will remove their yokes from your necks. They will be broken because you have become so strong.
Everywhere in the Bible where the anointing shows up, there is a dramatic shift: a departure of evil and the arrival of blessings. When Jesus Christ appeared at the tomb of Lazarus, life swallowed up death. When He came to the house of Zacchaeus the tax collector, salvation swallowed up unrighteousness… You have to focus on both the anointed One and His anointing and not just the anointing. Jesus focused on the person that anointed Him (the Father) so He never lost any battle. The difference between the Christian and non-Christian is the burden removing yoke destroying power and the person we carry, but we need to daily live our lives with revealed knowledge of the anointing. Jesus is so gracious with His anointing; He gave us both Himself and His anointing. So, if you are a CHRIST-ian, you have the anointed One and His anointing resident in your spirit.
The following are some statistics on Jesus Christ (the anointed One and is Anointing). This is what the anointing we carry does and will do:

He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of Gentiles. He was the Christ’

In conclusion, see what Jesus said about Himself – (Luke 4:16-27,) And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him. And He began to say unto them, This day is this Scripture fulfilled in your ears. And all bare Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth.
