Privileges received at Salvation Part 1

2Timothy1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Salvation as we have read over the past few days is not just for the here after but also for the here right now. Once we give our life over to the Lord there is a spiritual exchange takes place and Christ’s Very own spirit is deposited in us. As we progress on our spiritual walk with the Lord the Holy Spirit comes alive in us. The Holy Spirit himself is a gift from God to us and within him there are many gifts available to us because of our Salvation.

Based in the above scripture 2Tim 1:7 becoming fearless in life is one of the many great things & privileges I obtained at salvation.

So let’s break it down,

Firstly I realised that old philosophies that I had lived by in the past may sound spiritual but are not scriptural. Before I received salvation I believed a little fear was a good thing that could help protect you. In fact I believed it was healthy. Like not going too close to a fire or ledge as their was a possibility I could fall or burn myself. As a Child I was fearless of fire and heights but as I got older any fear I had were amplified, fear like everything else that you nurture, grows. One day I read Hosea 4:6 ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.’ Then a light came on, Isn’t it better to be more knowledgeable about things than fearful?.  For example fire is hot & can burn, heights are high and a fall from a height can be fatal. Now If I am making barbecue I should read the instructions for my grill, follow them and use the proper equipment & fuel required. I should keep nearby proper measures to extinguish that fire in the event of anything going wrong. Immediately having acquired that knowledge and following that plan fear is eliminated. Knowledge extinguishes fear every time! Now I have a healthy consciousness for fire and the damage it can cause if I am careless around it, but praise God I don’t have an unhealthy consciousness (fear) of it and my family can happily enjoy steaks on the grill in summer.

One of the things I have gained from my salvation is the knowledge that fear is never healthy, it is a spirit that & if allowed, it can control and influence the quality of my life and the outcome of my destiny. It is most certainly not of God. With proper knowledge I can overcome fear and learn how to overcome fear and prevent it tormenting or destroying me.

For further study:

1John 4:18  – There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Personal declaration for the day:

God you did not give me the spirit if fear, therefore fear and any gift that is not of God I refuse and rebuke in the name of Jesus!

Questions for you to reflect on:

What is your fear?

Why do you fear what you fear?

How do intend to overcome your fear?
