KEY QUESTIONS ON FORGIVENESS – PART 2
Am I willing to ask and accept forgiveness?
1 John 1:9 ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’
The bible says we should ask and we will receive. Friend, when we ask for forgiveness from God, He is faithful and just to grant us our request, we however need to on our part receive this forgiveness. When God forgives us, our receiving it is hinged on our willingness to accept and forgive ourselves. Many resent themselves and draw away from God because they feel they are a disappointment to God, their family members and others. Overcoming an addiction, bad habit, weight and sin could be really depressing especially when a lot of effort has been put into staying free, please be aware that it is not by our might or strength that we can stay free, hence, we need to receive that forgiveness from God and know that the guilt that keeps us away from God, the people of God and loved ones is a lie of the enemy. It is our responsibility to stay free.
Am I ready to stay forgiven?
Philippians 3:13 ‘Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,’
This is a question many shy away from by responding ‘only God knows’. I dare you to say ‘It is my choice’.
We have a huge responsibility to not only confess but also forsake our sins. We have been given the grace and strengthened with might by His Spirit in our inner man. Jesus said on the cross, ‘ it is finished’. Your struggle is over; you don’t have to look back on those poor choices anymore. We need to forget the past and press forward to a better you.
