John 15:5 – I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Identity deals with who we are. It is what separates or unite us with others. To share an identity with a person or group of persons suggests some active engagement on our part. For your identity to be functional, you have to take it up. For example, whenever, I want to come into Nigeria, I have to take up my Nigeria identity passport to pass through the immigration or else I would need a visa for entry. For me to enter Ireland I would need an Irish passport or I would need a visa for entry. So also to reign in Christ and over the world I need to take up my identity in Christ. Jesus same in Matthew 28:18-20, that all power in heaven and on earth has been given to him. And in Luke 10:18-19, Jesus declared that he given us power over all the power of the enemy. For us to operate in the grace of absolute authority over the power of enemy we need to take up our identity in Christ. My identity as the son of my earthly father is limited and cannot guarantee me absolute mastery over the power of the devil but my identity in Christ guarantees me absolute dominion over every power of the enemy.
It is in Christ that I am the head and not the tail. It is in Christ that I am above and not beneath, it is in Christ that I am a new creation. It is in Christ that I am the righteousness of God, it is in Christ that I am God’s ambassador, it is in Christ that I am a royalty, it is in Christ that I am the light and salt of the world, it is in Christ I can do all things, it is in Christ and I can lay hands on the sick and they recover, it is in Christ that I have unlimited success. The list goes on and on. But notwithstanding what I have and who I am in Christ, I still have to take up my identity in Him to activate a desired out. This process starts by image formation. I have to develop myself image based on who I am been made in Christ for me to produce the works and result of Christ.
I need to find my identity in Christ, take up my identity by believing it, meditating on it, envisioning it and declaring it until it becomes my absolute conviction then I begin to live and reign like Christ. All the days of our lives on earth, we have the responsibility of developing the right image on our inside on the basis of who we have been made in Christ so as to live a supernatural and extra-ordinary life. This requires a daily effort. That is why Paul said ‘I die daily’; He said ‘it is no longer I that live but Christ that lives in me’ ‘the life I now live, I live by the faith of the son of God’. In closing I have a question for you, what image of yourself do you really carry? What is the source of your image formation? Your human background, community or your spiritual heritage in Christ?
