Galatians 3:13 – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

Let’s look at Genesis 12 and verse 1, “Now the Lord said to Abram, “Get thee out of your father’s house to a land which I will show you. I will make of thee a great nation; I will bless thee and make your name great and thou shalt be a blessing. I will bless them that bless you; I will curse them that curse you and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And Abraham departed as the Lord had spoken.”

Abraham and God had a covenant agreement; Abraham was to leave his people to where God would show him, and God was to bless him. It may look simple but Abraham had to move for God to bless. So if you don’t do what He wants you to do He’s not obliged to bless you.

You need to understand the different types of giving and why God tells people to give. You need to understand why you tithe, give offerings or give to the poor. Most people don’t really know why they give. God didn’t tell you to give because He gave you, no not at all. You give to create a channel for you to get again from God. If you don’t know why you give you are likely to miss out on God’s best for you regardless of your giving because there is no agreement in operation. Giving because it is morally right and as an act of appreciation and not because you see it as a covenant responsibility makes a person lose the essence and reward of giving and receiving. Such a person does not expect a harvest and with this wrong mindset cannot see opportunities.

A very important type of giving is tithing.

Malachi 3:8 says, “Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But ye say wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even the whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be meat in my house, prove me now herewith saith the Lord of hosts if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it. I shall rebuke the devourer for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruit of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field saith the Lord; and all the nations shall call you blessed.”

Ten percent of every financial increase that God gives you is the starting point. You can’t say you’re a giver when you’re not a tither. The tithes are meant to be brought into the storehouse. Where is the storehouse? The storehouse is the place where you receive maximum spiritual benefit. It is the place where you are groomed spiritually, where the word of God nourishes you.

You need to tithe because prosperity is a covenant. It’s not the amount but the operation of the covenant that matters. This is the only time that God says He will rebuke the devourer for your sakes when you tithe, every other time you’re expected to do so yourself. So when things are tight you can say, “God rebuke the devourer for my sake,” and He will do so. This is necessary for you to live a lifestyle of prosperity having more than enough. It is not God’s plan for you to wait till the very last minute before getting things done.

Please be aware that your lack of faith in God’s word does not make it ineffective, it only makes it ineffective in your life. Your unbelief destroys your part of it. Wealth must first be established within for it to manifest without. Tithing rebukes the devourer and causes blessings to be poured down. For example when we wanted to buy one of our houses in Ireland we were supposed to pay stamp duty of close to €10,000 (Ten Thousand Euros) but just as we were about to pay, stamp duty was abolished in Ireland. Thus we saved that money. Even the former owner left behind all the furnishing and we didn’t have to buy much! This is an example of the windows of heaven been open and blessings pouring down.

No matter what you make, you should tithe. God sees the people that tithe and increases them. Your tithe runs your life, not the church. The tithe strengthens you not the church. You need God on your side therefore you cannot afford not to tithe. When you operate this law you sleep peacefully with both eyes closed. So make tithing a lifestyle.

Another type of giving is giving to the poor.

Proverbs 19:17, “He that hath pity on the poor lendeth unto the Lord, and that which he hath given will be paid to him again.” You are not meant to give the tithe to the poor. God does not multiply what you give when you give to the poor, he only repays. The blessing upon the tithe is different from the blessing on the money you give to the poor.

Freewill offering is another type of giving. Please note that God does not multiply the tithe He only multiplies your freewill offerings. The tithe opens the windows of heaven whilst the offerings determine the amount of financial blessing God is to return to you. God only multiplies your seed and not your tithe. The tithe is not your seed it is God’s entitlement from the start. You give to God for Him to bless you, to multiply what you have given, and to establish His covenant. I want you to know your being broke is destabilizing God’s plan. When you’re broke the covenant of God is under threat.
