1. The meaning of God’s presence:

Genesis 1:2 KJV And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

We see in the above Scripture that the first manifestation of God’s presence is the Spirit of God. His presence came to restore order to a formless, empty and dark world where chaos and evil works prevailed. When God showed up on the scene, light came and everything was restored to normalcy: the way it was created in the beginning. His presence can simply be defined as where His Spirit dwells, rules and manifests.

Moses recognized this in Exodus 33:14 when he insisted on God’s presence going with them in their journey through the wilderness. Whatever you do, wherever you go, you need the active presence of God to be with you. Adam manifested God in the garden of Eden because he had His presence in him. He became a god and exercised dominion over all the creation of God because of His presence. What he lost when sin set in was this presence and thereafter, he lived a meaningless life.

  1. Recognizing His presence: signs of His presence.

Wherever God is, multitude of angels will precede His appearance to carry out assignments to create an atmosphere of order, peace, love and perfection. In Genesis 28:12-16, Jacob recognized His presence by the presence of angels. Hebrews 12:22 says, ‘But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.’

Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17 – Liberty expresses setting free from any form of bondage. When God appears, chains are broken, burdens are lifted, yokes are destroyed and people who appear and acknowledge His presence are delivered and released from every form of fear or torment. When Paul and Silas evoked His presence in Acts 26:16, the chains were broken and the prison doors flung open immediately. His presence guarantees freedom. Praise God!

In His presence, there is fullness of joy – Psalm 16:11. When God fills a place, you can expect fullness of everything and pleasures undeniable. The atmosphere where God dwells radiates joy unspeakable. The life that God dwells in expresses the kind of joy that the world cannot comprehend, an unshakable form of peace with love that surpasses all understanding.

  1. Carriers of His presence:

After Adam lost the permanent in-dwelling presence of God in the Garden of Eden, His presence became a visitation in the lives of concentrated and separated individuals appointed by God. The presence was also confined to a place called the temple and before people could even approach this presence, even the priests, they would need to consecrate themselves through sacrifice to atone for their sins and the sins of the people. But Jesus came back with the presence. John 3:34 says that God gave Him His Spirit without measure. Colossians 1:19 says in Him all fullness dwell and

Act 10:38 says, ‘How God anointed Jesus Christ of Nazareth who went about doing good, healing them that were oppressed by the devil because God was with Him.

Unlike in the olden days where the presence came as a visitation, in the new dispensation of grace through the atoning sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, the presence of God in a born again, Spirit-filled child of God becomes a permanent in-dwelling presence.

John 14:16-17 KJV [16] And I will pray the Father and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; [17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Also, His presence is no longer confined to a place according to Acts 7:48 KJV. [48] Howbeit, the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands. The Almighty now lives in you and I and as many that will accept Jesus into their lives. We no longer go into His presence as it were but we activate the presence that we carry. We are His presence, we are the temple of God and not the church physical structure. We make the church building the house of God because it is full of people carrying His presence and are conscious of His presence. This explains why miracles, signs, wonders and deliverances will regularly happens in the church and not in your secular office, because, there in the church, there is a heavy concentration of people carrying His presence and we activate this presence in fellowship with one another.

Friends, we have become His presence and if we can recognize and activate this presence everywhere we go, we will become a mobile church: meaning we will create an atmosphere around us where yokes are destroyed, chains are broken, burdens are lifted and people are set free. This is exactly what the Scripture in Act 7:48 describes about the life of Jesus. Everywhere He went became a kind of church or crusade because God was with Him and He manifested His presence. You are also called and created to permanently manifest this presence and this you can do by continually, consciously and intentionally recognizing His presence. Praising, worshiping and making melody to God in your heart will activate His presence. Praying continually in the Holy Ghost will activate His presence. Fellowshipping with other saints or alone will activate His presence.

One may ask, why do I need to constantly create an atmosphere of His presence? You see, by default, evil will dominate if we don’t manifest and your environment will be like the formless, empty, dark earth before His presence appeared. See what the Scripture says in Psalm 91:1-3 KJV. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust. Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

The secret place and the shadow of the Almighty represent His presence and according to this Scripture, His presence creates a form of shield and protective covering around you to protect you from attacks from sickness and deadly diseases. Friend, more than ever before, we are protected by God’s presence from sickness and diseases. We need to become very conscious of this especially in this present time. The hand of the Lord rests upon you and the power of the most High overshadows you in Jesus’ name. I speak protection over you and your family in Jesus’ name! Amen!
