8 Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant – dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ 9 and be embraced by him. I didn’t want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ – God’s righteousness. 10 I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself. (Message Translations).
Proverbs 8:17 – I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
2 Corinthians 8:5 – And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.
Some of the definitions of giving include devoting to a cause, to make available, sacrifice, to bestow, to yield. One of the greatest gifts that God gave us is time. Time is a tool of exchange. For example employees give their time to their employer in exchange for salary. Parents invest their time in their children to get a worthy legacy. Everything of value and significance costs time. Everyone give time to things that are important to them. If I want to know what is important to you, I will examine what you invest most of time in. And what you invest the prime of your time in is what will deliver most dividends to you. Those dividends could limit you or liberate you. For example a person that spends the prime of his time doing nothing of value will reap a dividend of nothingness and will be limited by the outcome. There are many important things and persons we can invest our time in but the first and foremost person we should devote the prime of time to is our heavenly father. Giving time to experience God’s love and His presence is the best thing you can do for yourself. Understanding his love for you make your faith effective. Experiencing His presence makes you whole. That is why the devil will do everything in his power to distract you from prioritising your time with God. I know many people that it was after father their father died that it dawned on them that their lives would have been far better if they had spent more time with and listened to their father. A survey carried out in America showed that the majority of the male prisoners in the America prison are from homes without a father figure. I believe this also applies spiritually; we have a lot of Christians that have remained in spiritual prisons because of lack proper investment in time with their father God. To some it is not event a top priority. A wise man said ‘count as lost each day you have not used in loving God’. The following are some of the statements that God impressed on my heart when I was preparing this write up,-
‘The problem is not that people are not doing things for me, but they are not doing things with me. My children are not enjoying time together with me. Most of the time they come to me because they want something from me but not because they want me.’ Pause and think about that, do you really spend time with God for God or just for you and the things you need. How many times do you devote time in God’s presence just to have a father-child relationship? We have been trained in using the time with God for personal and not mutual benefits. People are well trained in looking to God for things but are not well equipped on how to seek Him just for father-child relationship. Time devoted to God is not supposed to be only for presenting out Christmas wish list it is meant for family communion. While giving time to God is good, giving time to God for the wrong reasons and with the wrong motive is an abuse of divine opportunity and disregard to divine order. We should devote time to God first for who He is and not for what He can give us. It is because of who He is that we will enjoy His blessings. So our first focus should be to devote time to Him because of who He is.
The following are the some of the reasons why we to devote the prime of our time to our father :-
- He demands our time and commands us to do so – Matthew 6:33
- He is our source – Genesis 1:27
- It is an expression of our love and worship –
- For intimacy, to receive instruction and develop our trust in him
- Because Jesus modeled it
- It is the most important aspect of our day
- It adds immeasurable value to our lives
- It brings the divine nature and the best out of us
- In the presence of God there is fullness of Joy
- So that he will show himself strong in our behalf
- It is key to healing and deliverance
