Galatians 5:22 & 25- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…..If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Faithfulness simply means being faithful towards men, in our promises, and in all our actions. It also means speaking the exact truth at all times. Another word for faithfulness is fidelity which means the quality of being loyal and not betraying somebody or something. Faithfulness in one of the greatest attributes of God, for if not for His faithfulness, we would have been consumed. He is forever faithful even in those times that we are unfaithful. His faithfulness is not dependent on our faithfulness but rather on His own personality. The bible declares in 2 Timothy 2:13 that if we believe not, yet He abides faithful: He cannot deny Himself. This means that for God to be unfaithful, He ceases to be God, He cannot but be faithful because that is exactly who He is.
It therefore follows that if we have received God’s Spirit into our heart and allow Him to fully permeate our total being we will of course imbibe this attribute of God as a fruit of the Spirit. We can then conveniently conclude that a true Christian will be a faithful man–a man faithful to his word and promises; a man who can be trusted or confided in. A man who is dependable and reliable, he means what he says and says what he means and not a covenant breaker. A Spirit filled man is faithful as a Christian; he has an understanding of the faithfulness of God and feels indebted to Him. He Strives to please God at all times in all of his works, Loves and fear God, diligent in his service to God and does what he’s assigned to do at the right time and with the right attitude, does not require to be encouraged to serve, he is passionate about soul winning, a faithful giver and faithful in his tithe.
Faithfulness is the cornerstone of the character of a person. It forms the basis for which the world will describe who we are and what we stand for. A faithful Christian will be a faithful neighbour, friend, father, husband, wife, son, partner, boss, employee, employer, servant etc. He is faithful to his contracts; faithful to his promises. No man can be a Christian who is not thus faithful; and all pretensions to being under the influences of the Spirit, when such fidelity does not exist, are deceitful and vain. Hence justifying the scripture which says “if we are in the spirit let us also walk in the spirit”.
Galatians 5:13 with love serve one another
1 Corinthians 4:2 – It is required in Marriage that a partner be found faithful.
In the above scripture we are all enjoined to serve one another in Love. It follows then that if we are all serving, we are all in the ministry of stewards. Using this scripture to explain 1 Corinthians 4:2, one can conveniently paraphrase it as follows; it is a requirement in relationships that a partner be found faithful. For example in a marriage relationship, a partner must be found faithful. The husband or wife must be faithful in every of their dealings. They must constantly and deliberately demonstrate their faithfulness to one another and any deviation from this is unfaithfulness or infidelity which is a sin. It normally has the end result as adultery and fornication for singles. Though it starts from simple and harmless thoughts but when allowed to flourish, gives birth to sin. Infidelity is a common marriage breaker and as Christians we should not allow the seed of unfaithfulness to spring up in our dealings. A faithful Christian should be a faithful husband who loves God, loves his wife and will do things to please God and his wife at all times. A faithful partner will not accommodate any other intimate relationship with the opposite sex, which will ultimately result in infidelity. A faithful partner will not cheat and must be interested in the growth and development of the partnership and must be seen to do things to foster this objective. A faithful partner must be a true friend, who will be his/her brother’s keeper and will be interested in the spiritual and mental development of the friendship.
Unfaithfulness in one area of life, may be an indication of unfaithfulness in others, it therefore behoves us as Christians to guard this fruit jealously, nurture and constantly allow ourselves to be pruned by the word of God so that we can bear more of the fruit of faithfulness, and by so doing project the right image and represent well the One who has called to glory and virtue. I pray that every plant my heavenly Father has not planted be up-rooted from your life in Jesus name.
