Enter His gate with thanksgiving

September 3

Thanksgiving is an act directed towards God, generally in response to Gods concrete acts. Thanksgiving is centered on worship. Thanksgiving is a natural element of Christian worship and is to characterize our life as children of God. (1Cor 14:16-17, Col 2:7 4:2). One of the great commandments is to give thanksgiving to God at all time for all He has done for us. In Ps 100:4 we were told to enter His gate with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Christ Jesus was the perfect example of obeying this commandment by giving thanks to the Father always.

The first way to show thanksgiving to God is to always remember Him, remembering Him means that He is part of our thought, words and deeds. A song writer wrote the song ‘hear this praises from a grateful heart each time I think of you praises starts, love you so much, Jesus love you so much” she was able to write the song because her thought was on Him. It is impossible to give thanks to God if we never think or speak of Him. Phil 4:6

Recognize God’s hand: We must recognize God’s hand in our lives that is, what blessing has He given to us, when we think of all He has done, those times that seem like coincidence, you will be amazed at how many blessing you truly have.

In the face of adversity or challenges, we must make a choice to react to our challenges by becoming humble and thankful or we can become angry and bitter. When we choose to be humble, we are showing thanksgiving to God, and that we have faith in Him, that we trust Him. We may not know God’s plan for us but as we humble ourselves, especially in adversity, we are submitting ourselves to His will. ‘Humility begets gratitude while pride begets ingratitude.

An excellent way to show thanksgiving is by keeping a gratitude journal, another song says count your blessing, name them and it will surprise you, what the lord has done Habakuk 2:2 admonished us to write the vision and make it plain, whatever we write can never be easily forgotten in a hurry. When we keep record of what He has done for us, although we can’t write all because they are numerous but, we can write as much as possible the ones we can remember, it will help open our eyes to the Lord’s faithfulness and love to appreciate God the more.

In conclusion, it is high time we magnified our God above every challenge and look up to our God matt 6:31-33. Thanksgiving is an essential part of conveying our appreciation to our heavenly father, He awaits our expressions of gratefulness each morning, noon, night time and every moment in sincere simple prayer from our heart, when we express our gratitude, we show our dependence upon God.
