ENCOURAGEMENT – Part 3
Psalm 42:5,11 – Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance. Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.
Declare words of encouragement from Scriptures over your life
Confess encouragement Scriptures over your life when you feel discouraged and weary. When you hear the voice of discouragement welling up from within you, counteract it with words like, ‘I’m strong and I am not down trodden, I am renewed, I rise up like an eagle in Jesus’ mighty name.’
John 14:11 says,”Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” Don’t let past failures or problems discourage you. Stop dwelling in the past, don’t look back, look forward. Don’t stand still in your discouragement: it will solidify around you and you’ll be stuck.
Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Give thanks – praise God and pray.
1 Peter 1:3 – Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Now, I don’t mean we should thank God for our state of discouragement. The Bible encourages us to give thanks in all things, not for all things. So, if you can only thank God for one thing, thank God for that one thing a hundred times and then, through prayer, ask Him to encourage you and bless you.
The Holy Spirit
John 16:6-7 – Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.
A part of the Holy Spirit’s ministry is to encourage us. He is the great Encourager. So, pray in the Holy Spirit and ask Him to be your Encourager.
Romans 8 tells us to pray in the Spirit when we’re too distressed or burdened and we do not know how to pray or what to pray for.
Acts 9.31 -The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.
