2Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
When I got born again years back, one of my greatest challenge was changing people’s perspective of me. Before I gave my life to Jesus Christ, I was involved in everything l was big and bad enough to do. I partied hard, smoked hard, went into more than one relationship, dressed outrageously, you just name it.
I also had a bad reputation, and the more parties l attended, the more popularly l became.
When l got born again, I realised that I had switched camp, and everything about me must change. The above scripture in 2nd Corinthians 5:17, had to come alive in my life. However, l thought the only way to follow through with my new life was a change of environment, so my parents and l did all we could to get me into a new school, it didn’t work. When I got born again, l was on break from my diploma course at the university. I was home, did not mingle with my old friends, attended church most times, studied scriptures after scriptures prayed a lot, grew closer to God and grew in my new faith. The worries however came when l had to return to school. We must remember that l had a bad reputation.
The first thing l did was get myself a new place to stay, got new wears which included only a handful of trousers, and tried to stay out of the way of old friends.
I however realised after a few days that all the precautions I took were not the way to go.
In order for you to show the world that you have switched camp and you’re now in ‘Camp Jesus’, you need to recognise and accept your new Identity, who you are.
Who are you?
–You are God’s child, for you are born of the incorruptible seed, forgiven of all your sins and washed in the Blood (Ephesians 1:7).
–You are delivered from the power of darkness and translated into God’s kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
–You are redeemed from the curse of sin, sickness, and poverty (Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Galatians 3:13).
–You are firmly rooted, built up, established in your faith and overflowing with gratitude (Colossians 2:7).
–You are called of God. (2 Timothy 1:9).
–You are raised up with Christ and seated in heavenly places. (Colossians 2:12).
–You are greatly loved by God. (Ephesians 2:4–5).
Our lives flow out of our Identity. You will live your life the way you see yourself.
If you realise that you are a new creature, that you are now in the image of Christ, you will live according to His standards and all will see.
Whereas you were rude, unk?nd, and disrespectful and filled with anger in your old life, you begin to show love, be accommodating, slow to anger, and kind, all attributes of who Jesus is.
This was the revelation that changed my life and made preaching to the same people I hung out with possible. I simply started living a life worthy of my calling.
Romans 13:14 – “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires”.
Your identity requires that you “put on Christ”. That simply means “live like Christ”. A man that lives like Christ manifests the fruit of the spirit.
The main mark of the gospel of Christ is love. Let every obligation, every duty, every kindness, every word, every message be an act of love. If you truly belong to camp Jesus, and really love the way Christ loves, you will reach and change lives. The most effective way to change a person is to let him see the changes in you.
Finally, always remember who you are wherever you find yourself. You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into H?s marvellous light.– 1 Peter 2:9.
