BEARING GOOD FRUITS – Part 2
16 So I say, live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
I don’t know about you but it’s not easy. I don’t always find it easy to love my enemies and I hate injustice and bullies so, how am I to keep my peace when the temptations and provocations of this world come? My strategy is as follows:
The leading of the Holy Spirit
Jesus is not here on earth but the Holy Spirit is our advocate here. Jesus said, ‘I will send you a helper.’ The help the Holy Spirit gives you in developing your character so that you bear godly fruits is via His leading. If you can allow the Spirit of God to lead you, you will bear good fruits.
Feed on the word of God
Spend time in the word of God, Get to know the God you serve and whose you are. Get to know your identity. Read your Bible and seek God out. Get anchored in a good church where there is good Biblical teaching. When you allow the word of God to flourish in you, you will bear good fruit.
Someone told me that she was not just hungry for the Lord, she was greedy for Him.
Select your words
Saying something doesn’t just have to be with your mouth, it is with your mind too. What are you saying to yourself every day in your mind? The Bible says, ‘Out of the mouth comes the abundance of the heart.’
We have to think about what we are thinking.
You know it’s easier to think negative thoughts than it is positive in a bad situation, that’s what we are programmed to do.
It takes choice and effort to think positive thoughts. This is where the battle kicks in and you have to fight the flesh.
The Bible says in Philippians4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
People ask me if I ever kept positive confession and a negative outcome still occurred. Yes, many times and then, I used to get angry at God. I thought, ‘What’s in this Christianity for me?’ Then, God told me one day that at least I didn’t give three weeks worrying about it. I don’t know why I didn’t have a break-through then but what I do know is that wine producers say, ‘The best grapes grow in valleys,’ and I grew out of those experiences and learned how to and how not to handle those situations.
I don’t make positive confessions out of fear of something bad happening to me. That would be fear motivated and not faith motivated and that would be a waste of time. If you allow the Spirit of God to lead you, you will get to a place where you would be saying those things out of conviction and you will find out that situations have better out come.
Remind yourself of the past breakthroughs that God has given to you and thank Him!
