A VISION FROM GOD – FULFILLING IT – PART 2
Acts 16:9-15 “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia and help us. And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the Gospel unto them. Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; And from there to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony; and we were in that city abiding certain days. And on the Sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women who resorted there. And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and abide there. And she constrained us”
CUT OFF THE HINDRANCES
What next did Paul do on the journey to fulfil his vision? He then cut off “his ties” with the present place he was at. How many times do we hear people say they have had the call of God and then allow circumstances, homes and family, jobs, personal interests . . . so many things to get in the way? The vision is hindered – and the vision dies. Christian, in these days we have to hold on to this world’s goods lightly, to hold on to the possessions of this life with an “open hand,” so that if God wants them, He gets them. So many people miss God because they cannot “cut the ties” with the things that hold us back from moving on in God and fulfilling our vision.
A STRAIGHT COURSE
Also, we read in verse 11: “We came with a straight course.” Is that the kind of life we live? We have a vision, our eyes are upon it and nothing is going to “side-track” us – nothing is going to cause us to waiver? We have a vision in our life that is born of God and, with a “straight course” we are pursuing it? That’s the type of life-style we need to have – running a straight course! God wants us to have the excitement of a vision being lived out and fulfilled within each of our lives. To know we are going somewhere in God! To know that God will not leave us, nor forsake us, nor let us down in the pursuit of our vision. He has set a straight course for us in order that we may fulfil it.
THEY CONTINUED TO PRAY
Again, as they were fulfilling the vision, they continued to pray. It was not a time to give up on praying. Keep praying! Keep believing! It is as we are moving in God, as we are going forward, endeavouring to fulfil the vision that we find God answers prayer. God will release what we need to fulfil the vision, because, remember, the vision is His more than it is yours or mine. God will stand behind His Word and work to back it up! Don’t lose sight of the need to pray.
