Revealing Christ, the Anointed One and His Anointing

WHY DID JESUS CHRIST COME? Part 1

WHY DID JESUS CHRIST COME?  Part 1

Matthew 1:21-22 – And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying:  “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

Luke 19:10 – For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.

John 10:10 – The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

It is important we know the purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ into the world, so as to maximise the benefits. Without such knowledge, we may end up abusing Him and losing out on what He has to offer us.

The name ‘Jesus’ means ‘Saviour’ or ‘God is our salvation.’ The word ‘salvation’ in Greek means ‘Soteria.’ This is a compound word meaning, all-round deliverance, preservation, safety etc.

In the above scripture in Matthew, the angel of the Lord was telling Joseph the purpose of the first coming of Jesus Christ. The purpose is to save His people from their sins. Jesus Himself in the Gospels of Luke and John confirmed that He came to save and give abundant life.

The question is,’ Why is it important for Him to save us from our sins?’ ‘What impact does sin have that He needed to save us from it?’

After the fall of man in Genesis chapter 3, man was separated from God and the devil became lord and master of mankind. The first immediate repercussion of the fall was that man was expelled from the Garden of Eden and the presence of God. The next thing was that Cain killed his brother, Abel. Ever since, sin has multiplied on Earth.

In Romans 3:23, the Bible says, ” All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” ‘ALL’ not ‘some’ but ‘ALL’- meaning that the nature of sin was passed into every seed of Adam even those of us that were not in the garden, but thank God for Jesus, He came to save us from the power of sin and the downward trend of our lives.

In Romans 6:23, the Bible says, “The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ.” Jesus came to pay the wages of our sins and to save us from them. He didn’t stop there but He also saved us into righteousness and gave us eternal life.

2Corintians 5:21 – ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.’ Glory to God!

Jesus has done His part but we are still left to do our part. Our part in this equation is to believe and receive what He has done for us in order to activate it. He came the first time to save us from our sins and save us into righteousness to give us eternal life. What is eternal life? I will deal with this later.

He will come the second time as a Judge, but thank God, those of us who accepted Him at His first coming will not be judged but will judge with Him when he returns the second time.
