Revealing Christ, the Anointed One and His Anointing

Understanding God’s Love

Ephesians 3:13-21 – 13 Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height– 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

1 John 3:1 – Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

Many people have heard that God loves them but very few have and an in-depth comprehension of God’s love. As a result, such people are denied of their experience of the fullness of God’s blessing. I have found that the knowledge of God’s love could be intellectual, revelational and experiential. Intellectual knowledge of God’s love is limited to mental awareness and assent. Revelational knowledge is divine illumination and insight. Experiential knowledge is encounter that comes as a result of believing and acting on what is revealed. Mental and revelational knowledge without experience is frustrating. It is not what you know that saves you; it is what you do with what you know. You cannot give what you don’t have. You can only genuinely give the love of God to the measure you have experienced.

In Luke 10:27, we are told in the greatest commandment, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.

Before God gave this commandment to Israel and before Jesus gave it to His disciples both God and Jesus already kept the commandment by showing undeniable and vivid love to Israel and his disciples. Her demonstrated to them first so that they can demonstrate it as well. Before God told us to love Him or our fellowman, he first showed us love when we did not deserve it. The problem however, is that people do not know that God is in love with them at all times. They are not aware that there is a constant supply of God’s love being released upon them because they have made their circumstance and situation the dominating factor in their life.

Paul in the above scripture in Ephesians, was going through a very tough time, some historians say he wrote this book from prison cell in Rome in 64AD.The challenge that Paul was facing had a negative impact on the courage of the Christians in Ephesus. This led Paul to pray for inner strength for them. He also prayed for Christ to dwell in their ‘hearts’ through faith. The word ‘hearts’ in this scripture means, feeling, emotion and mind. Please be aware that you are tripartite being, you are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body. When you gave your life to Christ, you were totally saved. At the new birth, your salvation was both instant and progressive. Meaning, your spirit was instantly saved and you became completely one with Christ. Your soul and your body on the other hand were not saved at the time. Your soul began to get saved progressively on a daily basis through renewal of your mind by the word of God. Your body would be saved at the resurrection of the saints when we will receive new immortal bodies.

Our soul is comprised of our will, emotions and mind. Whatever we give greatest attention affects our soul and translates into action. Paul knowing this asked the Ephesians not to focus on his problems, to prevent the devil from using it to derail their faith. He began to pray for them that the indwelling of Christ and his unconditional love would dominate their feelings, emotions and mind so that they would come into the fullness of God’s blessing for them. Friend, the state of your soul in relation to God’s love affects you experience of the fullness of God’s blessing.

Like the Ephesians, if you allow problems and negative circumstance to dominate your mind, emotions and feelings, the result is, you will lose sight of the love that God has for you in Christ and you will also lose sight of ongoing outpouring of God’s love in your heart through the Holy Spirit(Romans 5:5). This would now put you in the wrong space. You will become discouraged and dejected and you will begin to question the love of God for you. Alternatively, if in spite of your problems you choose to lay hold of and meditate on God’s love for you, you begin to experience the flow of that divine love in your soul and your body and situation will start to respond to the divine signals you are generating. This experiential knowledge of God’s love makes your faith to effectively work. There are different dimensions to God’s love that we are meant to journey through and experience. But this cannot happen if we allow the challenges of life dominate our attention.

As we begin to cultivate and grow in our knowledge and consciousness of God’s love for us then it will be easier to share God’s love and work our faith effectively. Today I encourage you to start believing God’s love for you and never quit believing it, then your faith will start yielding result. Remember, love never fails…
