Revealing Christ, the Anointed One and His Anointing

The source and characteristics of divine wisdom

James 1:5-8 – 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God,who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. James 3:13 18 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. (NIV)

The wisdom of God is sourced from God. As all Toyota cars comes from Toyota factory so all of the Godly wisdom comes from God. So to have and demonstrate God’s wisdom, you need God. It sounds like a cliché but it’s true. The bible says in Proverbs 13:20, ‘he that walks with wise shall be wise but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.’ Through your submissive walk with God, you get an impartation of God’s wisdom.

When ungodly wisdom is at work in a person, it is manifested in their character and behavior. Some of the characteristics of ungodly wisdom are: bitter envy, selfish ambition and all manner of evil work. Ungodly wisdom first takes hold of the heart of the recipient and then manifests through their action. In like manner when Godly wisdom is at work in you, it starts in your heart and fills your spirit being with God’s divine personality and then begins to show in your behavior and relationships.

The following are some of the characteristics of Godly wisdom,

Good lifestyle – The word good in Greek connotes beautiful, pleasantness and beneficial. So a good lifestyle encompasses a beautiful and pleasant character that brings benefits. It is a virtuous and distinguished way of life. Remember wisdom is a spiritual force, so as you yield yourself to it, it helps you build your character. It develops the nature of God in you and helps you manifest it. Wisdom works from inside out. It starts by rooting out anything that is not good inside you and then develops the good things of God in you. Friend, if it is not good, it is not God.

Humility – This word has been misunderstood as being weak and being a foot mat. But that is not the case; humility is a conscious act of bringing yourself low so that God will promote you. Bringing yourself low so that the purpose and intention of God for you or others will take the front seat is humility. Bringing yourself low for any other reason contradicts true humility. True humility leads to exaltation but false humility which is actually pride leads to a fall. That is why God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble. Jesus humbled himself to die on the cross so that you and I might be saved. The greatest is always the servant of all. While knowledge without wisdom puffs up, knowledge with wisdom expresses itself with humility and seeks how he can benefit others.

Purity – the Greek word for this implies being cleansed and being clean. It means unalloyed metal. The wisdom of God has no manipulation in it. Divine wisdom is morally and ethically pure. There is no selective purity in divine wisdom. When the wisdom of God is at work in you, it empowers you to live a pure life. I hear people say, nobody is holy or pure, but I disagree; while righteousness is a gift we are given when we become born again, purity and holiness is a lifestyle we pursue and it is both instant and progressive. At the cross, Jesus took all our sins and cleansed us, as a result we became pure positionally in Christ, we however live out our purity as we continue to submit to God and His ways.

Remember the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Developing biblical thought pattern and submitting to God’s way of doing things makes you pure. There is a big difference between knowing scriptures and doing scripture. Purity comes with doing the scripture that you know.

Peace-loving – The word peace in Hebrew is shalom, meaning wholeness, i.e. nothing missing, nothing broken. The wisdom of God develops and creates an environment of wholeness in every area. The reign of Solomon the wisest king before King Jesus was peaceful and the bible says he made peace with many kings. One of the names of Jesus is the prince of peace. The wisdom of God makes you a reconciler and not a trouble stirrer or maker. Ungodly wisdom makes people divisive and war mongers. As you begin to embrace God’s wisdom, your level of inner peace will increase and overflow and you will become a peacemaker.
