How To Be Loyal Part 1

How to be Loyal Part 1

Most people know what loyalty means. The theory is easy, it is the practical side of it that is demanding but rewarding. This week I will enumerate some ways by which we can be loyal to God in our relationships and in carrying out our responsibilities. Please note that loyalty can be toxic. Loyalty to anyone or anything that results in the destruction of another person, good work or relationship is dishonouring to God and therefore toxic. The following are some of the steps to take in being loyal.

Make a decision of quality to be loyal

Daniel 1:8, 17-20 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself… As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. ……..And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.

Friend, either knowingly or unknowingly, we make decisions everyday and those decisions have outcomes. To be loyal you have to make a decision of quality to be a loyal person. You have to make loyalty one of your major life goals or you will never achieve it. In the above scripture Daniel made a decision to be loyal to his covenant with God and he reaped the rewards. Remember, you reap the harvest of what you sow. Make loyalty one of the foundational principles of your life. Personal Development takes a lot of effort.

Intentionally develop loyal character

Psalm 119:9How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to your Word.

Pursuit, they say, is the proof of desire. If you want to be loyal then you should be willing to pay the price by applying yourself to the personal development of loyal character. The sense of responsibility is the price of greatness. Make up your mind to do whatever it takes to develop a character of loyalty. Remember, this is a discipline that comes at a price. Carry out a personal appraisal; ask your friends and family to give you an honest report on what they think about you and what your loyalties are. Remember everybody is loyal to something and someone. Take what they tell you on board and make the necessary adjustments. Check your definition of loyalty with God’s definition of loyalty. Loyalty is a lifetime discipline so keep at it.
