1 Corinthians 15:53-58 –53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ 58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Hebrews 2: 14-15 – 14 the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Revelation 1:18 – 18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
It is reported by the world death clock, that 1.78 persons die every second, 107 persons die every minute, 6,390 persons die every hour, 153,000 persons die per day and 56million persons die every year. The U.S. census bureau states that 2.37 babies are born every second. So even from these statistics life triumphs over death. So as I am writing this material some persons have died somewhere in the world but more persons have been born as well. If God opens your spiritual eyes, you will see departures and arrivals in and out of this world. The world is like an Airport from where people depart and arrive. But thanks be to God, we as children of God have victory over death because He has defeated death for us. God never created mankind, animals, plants or anything to die. But after the fall of man through Adam, death came as the major consequence of Adam breaking God’s law and choosing to believe the devil. God did not leave Adam; it was Adam that left God. Adam died first spiritually and then later physically. The spiritual death was instant but the physical death was over a period of time. So before physical death fully takes place, it stings with the law to empower sin. T.L. Osborn said every time you sin something in your life dies. The challenge therefore is, man by himself cannot please God because of the nature he inherited after the fall. And as a result mankind continues in the vicious cycle of sin until he received Christ. With sin came sickness, poverty, demonic dominion, evil and all mishaps, and whenever sin matures, it results in death. So the fear of the pain and unknown outcome of death slowly but surely draws man towards death itself. That fear keeps man in bondage all his life time. That is why the bible says the soul that sins, shall die. It means the soul that practices sin. As I explained in by previous writing, death has been conquered by Jesus and you as a child of God should never be afraid of death because Jesus has removed the sting. You are now the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and sin has no dominion over you and therefore death has no dominion over you anymore. Therefore the fear of death should not be a factor in your life. That is why he gave you the Holy Spirit to be with you forever. As long as you carry the fear of death, you make the redemption that Jesus got you inactive. The fear of death actually is the mother of all fear. For example, people say they are afraid of water but the truth is they fear that if they drown, they will die. The people that are afraid of flying are not really afraid of flying, what they fear is that their airplane may crash and they will die. The fear of lack or failure, boils down to the fact that people think that if they don’t have the quality of life they desire, things would become bad and they may die prematurely. So all fear are tied to the fear of death. But Jesus has conquered death for us. But you have to receive it, believe it and proclaim.
When it’s time for you to leave your body and go to heaven, you will leave without pain, sting or dark shadows of the devil hovering over you. You know for those whose family have died and accepted Christ before they died; you should not sorrow like those without hope. Don’t talk about them as if you have lost them and as if they are in your past. Not at all, they are in heaven and in your future waiting to catch up with you when you get to heaven. Actually in the New Testament the bible records that Christians don’t die, they sleep. Man is a tripartite being, He is a spirit, he has a soul (mind, will, emotions) and he lives in a body. In physical death, the spirit and soul separates from the body. The body turns back to the dust and the spirit and soul returns to God for judgment. (Hebrews 9:27). Your body is your house, your spirit and soul is the real you. So dying and going to heaven is like leaving your current location and relocating to another place. Nobody will mourn if you move from where you currently reside and move to New York, Singapore or Paris. So also when someone dies, the person leaves the earth house (body) and goes to heaven and receives a (heaven body) but their spirit and soul are intact. While the person may be dead to the earth, they are alive to heaven and if they are Christians you will meet them in your future when you get to heaven.
So you as a child of God should not be afraid of death because it does not have hold over you. It cannot terminate your life at will and it does not have rule over your days on earth because you have an assignment to carry out for God. And when the time of your departing the earth comes, you know where you are going and you will be accompanied by the Holy Spirit to heaven, who has been assigned to be with you forever. Death is not a loss to a Christian, it is actually a gain. Paul in Philippians 1:21, says ‘to die is gain and to live is Christ’.
In addition to this at the resurrection, we will receive a new immortal body and then our full victory of death would have been realized. Right now we have appropriated our victory over spiritual death because we are now spiritually alive and no longer dead. That is what happened when we made Jesus the Lord of our lives He gave us eternal life in our spirit. Then at resurrection he will give new bodies in replacement of the bodies we lay down when we depart this earth. So for you as a believer, death is not the end, it is the beginning of another unending life.

Questions for Reflection:
- Do you know death is a defeated enemy?
- Do you know your spirit and soul will never die?
- Do you know you will receive the same type body Jesus has at resurrection?
Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law!
