Covenant of Blessing
Deuteronomy 28:1– And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.
Today, I will elaborate on the pros and cons of walking under the showers of blessings. Please be aware that permanence in the flow of blessings in God’s kingdom rests on the covenant. This implies that walking under the showers of blessings puts a demand on both God and us. God has a responsibility in the equation and so do we.
Simply put, a covenant is an agreement between at least two parties with a stated outcome/ or consequence subject to certain conditions. In other words, covenants rise or fall subject to certain conditions. If the conditions are right the results will be right but if the stated conditions are not adhered to the result will be negative.
I want to outline the conditions attached to our walking under the showers of covenant blessings. From the above scriptures we can see that we are required to keep God’s commandments and instructions. In the Old Testament the commandments refer to the Ten Commandments, while in the New Testament the whole commandments are encapsulated into one namely: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is similar: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” Matthew 22:37-39.
This implies that all the other commandments in the Bible hang or depend on the law of love to function appropriately. I submit to you that you cannot make the law of prosperity work unless you first obey the law of love. Your marriage, business or any other area of your life won’t work according to the promised blessing without obeying the commandment of love.
Some things make life work while some others hinder it from working; the law of love makes the showers of blessings pour on you continually. All of heaven is being poured out on us but we still need to activate it by walking in love even when it is difficult and the people we love are not making any effort to reciprocate or change accordingly.
There are different kinds of love: brotherly love, erroneous love (lust) and unconditional love (Agape, the God kind of love). The God kind of love is selfless; it is the kind of love that can only be generated in humans by the Holy Spirit that is within us. As the Bible says, the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit that is given unto to us. (Romans 5:5).
After I discovered this law, I began to practise it by applying it to areas of my life. Wherever I had grudges and bitterness against certain people I developed love to deal with it. I did this by conjuring up the peoples’ pictures in my mind and I began to pray for them. I said out loud that I loved them just as Christ loves me. At first it was tough on my flesh because some of these people had not changed and were still annoying me. But I continued making the proclamation and efforts, it took time before the feeling of hate left but I still loved the people by faith and after a period of time the feelings of hate dissolved and departed.
This period was followed by tremendous rewards and a life of peace. Don’t allow any form of hatred, bitterness and unforgiveness to put an umbrella under your shower. Let the blessing rain down by walking in and obeying the commandment of love.
Matthew 22:36-39, Job 36:11, Psalm 89:34
Personal declaration for the day
I love the Lord my God with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my mind. I love my neighbour as myself. Therefore, I live under the shower of God’s blessings at all times.
