Revealing Christ, the Anointed One and His Anointing

BIBLICAL BASIS FOR THE USE OF THE NAME

THE EXPECTED AFFECT OF THE NAME

Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

John 14:13-14, “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

It is in Gods plan that every time the name of Jesus is invoked everything in the realm of natural and supernatural “should bow”. This is a statement of expectation and not a statement of finality like some of us would prefer to believe. When the conditions for the effective use of the name of Jesus are met the name becomes unstoppable. The reverse is the case where these conditions are unmet.

A lot of believers are experiencing frustration in their prayer life due to an unenlightened interpretation of the promises made by our Lord regarding the use of His name. John 14:13-14 to a lot of people portrays the name of Jesus as a magical word or some kind of formula that make every imagination of our heart become flesh. This is far from being true. It is generally accepted that the name of Jesus is the supreme requirement to a successful prayer. However the successful use of the name calls for a thorough understanding of the biblical basis for the use of the name.

THE BIBLICAL BASIS EXPLAINED

Psalm 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

BASIS 1: RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

Anyone who does not have an authentic relationship with Jesus has no business using His name. Even when they do they cannot expect outstanding results.

John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Jesus Christ clearly stated in the above scripture that precursory to getting answers to prayer in His name there must be an “abiding in Christ” status by the user of the name otherwise result cannot be guaranteed. If you are easing in and out of Christ, you need not wonder why your petitions are gathering dust without any hope getting answers.

If you are not in Christ you are not eligible to use His name, If you are walking in unrighteousness your efforts prayer are exertions in nothingness. 1 COR 8:3 says “ But if any man love God, the same is known of him”. If you are not in Christ you not recognised. Its that simple.

BASIS 2: ABIDING IN THE WORD

Joh 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Ro 15:13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…”

Without abiding in the words of Christ you will not have faith in his name and as a result will not experience the joy and peace that is in believing. According to the mind of God the name of Jesus is made available to us in order to establish unending joy and peace in our earthly walk. When you are not rooted and grounded in  the words of Jesus you make prayer an herculean task and a needless toil.

We know from the account of the lame man that was healed that he was made perfectly whole through “faith in His name”. We are well acquainted with the fact that faith only comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. So being in Christ is not enough, you must abide in His word this creates an atmosphere of faith in your heart that makes it possible for you to effectively deploy the name.

It is no wonder that a lot of believers pray a lot of prayer without actually doing so in faith. Why? Because they do not have enough word that will produce the faith that should provide the conviction with which to engage the almighty name of Jesus. A powerless Christian existence is the stock in trade of wordless believers.

BASIS 3: THE WILL OF THE LORD

1 John 5:14-15.This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him”

Eph 5:17 :Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is”.

This is another major area where a lot of believers are suffering defeat and the reason in is not farfetched. No matter how passionate you are about a subject matter, no matter how much strain you put yourself through in the place of prayer without a clear understanding of the mind of God concerning the matter you may well be on a wild goose chase. But someone might say but how do I know the will of the Lord concerning a point in prayer? Very simple- spend time acquaint yourself with the word of God. Doing this exposes you continually to the way God thinks and His take on the matter under consideration.

Really a Christian who is not deep in the word will have issues recognising the will of God concerning the numerous departments of his/her life. Usually the reason why this is so is because of laziness but imagine what it is costing so many believers in church today. If you don’t know the will of the Lord concerning anything you will be spending time praying for the wrong things and making inappropriate demands in prayer. When such prayers are unanswered they create anxiety and frustration in the heart.

The bible scripture enjoins us to find and understand what the will of the Lord is because it is as we pray according to His will that we can be certain to have answers to all our petitions. This is the confidence that we have but if we pray presumptuously without having a clear-cut understanding of the will of God in the matter then we will be praying prayers of delusion that guarantees nothing but frustration and anger.

I pray that the Lord will grant you wisdom as you consider.
