ADDING VALUE TO OVERCOME POVERTY – Part 1
Proverbs 22:29; Have you seen a man DILIGENT in his WORKS? He shall STAND before kings; he shall not STAND before mere men. (Emphasis made by me)
Matthew 25:29; for unto everyone that had shall be given and he shall have in abundance: but from him that has not even what he had will be taken from him.
Adding value is one area where most people have failed. Doing things based on value is a virtue. It is a characteristic that is missing both in the secular world and greatly in Christendom. And this is simply because most people are more concerned with what they can get than what they can give. Some may claim the economic condition as excuse but show me a man who is diligent at what he does, and then I will tell you he is prosperous already. The importance of adding value is a key to overcoming poverty. Adding value is a skill that is likely to be more noticed than hard work. Hard work is not equal to success but adding value is equal to prosperity. People would do as much as they can in order to prosper. This is simply based on self-interest, for example, starting a one man business is simply for profit, finding a job in an already big organisation is for the large pay and bonuses, engaging in a kind of craft as an artisan is simply for the amount to charge, using talents as a means of livelihood e.g. singing for a living is simply for gain. Now, I am not against profit and gains and interests but what really gives a meaning to all of these is VALUE. If any man must break free from the claws of poverty then he must renew his mind, which has been stricken by poverty or poverty consciousness. Poverty is not quantified on the basis of what we have but on what we don’t have e.g. Value. The value of money has been limited to value of the paper and its spending power; this is not to be so if we truly indeed want to be financially free. I mean, if we look in carefully, we will see that people of excellence pay attention to value, they recognise value, they appreciate value and they would pay good money for value. Looking at it from where I stand, it is obvious that only an excellent person will give value and only excellent people appreciate and pay for value. Therefore, if we work based on value, our work will be excellent and we will only work for or work with people of excellence.
