7 Steps To Benefiting From Mentoring or Pastoral Guidance – 6

Step 6 – Do the assignment you are given with all your heart and finish it

Matthew 21: 28-31But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first…”

Luke 9:62And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

With every relationship comes a responsibility. It is a blessing to have a mentor to guide you but it is more blessed for you to live up to his expectation of you by carrying out the assignment you have been given to the best specification. I have seen many people do a lot of things like Martha in the Bible but the single most important assignment they have been given they have not carried out well. They even go ahead and delegate the job to another person and focus on what they have not been assigned to do. They are very good at helping others do their job and correcting others but they will not attend to their own assignment. When the time of assessment comes they want to be assessed by their various activities and not by the assignment that has been allocated to them.

As you are aware, God will not pay for what He has not ordered. The anointing of God on a man will only follow him in the direction he has assigned him. So stop and ask yourself what assignment has been allocated to me and how am I performing it? What was the last instruction I was given by my mentor and what were his comments about my performance? Answers to these questions will help you to know how close or far away you are from walking in the anointing that is resting on your mentor or pastor.
